Water Damage

If your phone ever gets really wet, or is dropped in water.

Here is some important information to help increase the chance to either make sure it will still be of use to you, or at lease get your data off.

RICE

Do not ever put your phone is rice. This is a very poor piece of advice floating around on Google. Rice in no way can absorb water that is inside your phone. Rice does absorb moisture. However, the moisture inside your phone will not be absorbed by the rice as your phone is sealed enough to make it difficult for water to get into it, and therefore it will not easily come out to be absorbed by the rice.

WATER

In fact, leaving your phone in the water is safer than removing it to place in rice.

Charging your phone

Many people do this shortly after dropping their phone in water in an urgent need to find out if their phone is fully functional. We all know to never stand in water that has electricity running through it. Once you plug your phone in while it is wet, you will blow capacitors on your phones motherboard, making the repair a lot more costly.

Oxidization

Once we remove our phones from water, the clock starts ticking. Many will see the phone working fine shortly after it has been in the water. But as the hours or days pass, the water dries. And as water dried it starts to rust tiny chips on the motherboard. This again causes a more expensive repair. Those chips have to be soldered off, the board completely cleaned and new capacitors have to be soldered on after a full diagnostics of the phone.

Screen

More often than not, if your phone has fallen into water, the screen will no longer function. If might turn colors or go black or no longer respond to touch. Most screens are made up of four to six or more layers of technology. Water seeping in between the layers will damage its functionality.

Time

If you are in a position to get your phone to a repair office within hours after retrieving the phone from the water, have not charged it, have not put it in rice, have not tried to use it, you will have a much higher probability of it only needing a screen repair.

Perfect Solution

There is no perfect solution when it comes to water damage. Salt water normally corrodes a phone faster than bath water. It might often be best to leave the phone in the water overnight if you are unable to take it to someone for repair until the following day. Different makes and models of phones also have vastly different outcomes once water damaged.

Solutions
